Do:
- Gently washing the outer ear with a soft washcloth and warm water daily
- Wearing plugs when showering/swimming or bluetack (use a new piece each time)
- Lift your chin up to prevent water entering the ear canal when rinsing your hair
- Get your ears regularly checked if you have any symptoms of wax buildup
- If you regularly wear hearing aids or ear plugs it is recommended that you get your ears cleaned regularly.
- If you wear hearing aids, monitor for signs of ear wax buildup on your hearing aid device. Watch for dislodged hearing aid plugs that may come off inside your ear canal, it may cause static or intermittent sound.
Don’t:
- Avoid getting water in your ear when showering, the soapy water will break down the protective barrier in your ear canals
- Do not attempt to put objects in your ear to remove the wax – it will only push the wax further in or damage your ear canal and/or ear drum.
- Ear Candles – do not work and can cause injury
